my photographic gallery.

Here are a number of Images from my collection, most have been taken on my Nikon F3 or my Nikon FM. Unfortunately I sold both of them, but I have my fathers Nikon F401 and I recently bought a Fuji finepix S7000 digital camera. You can see images from my new digital camera on the bushwalking page. I will try to keep these in order.

New Images:

I went to the Hunter Valley Gardens with my mother on the last day of 2008 and here are a couple of photos.

Singapore:

Some photos from my April 2004 trip to Singapore.

Thailand:

I was lucky enough to go back to Korat in Thailand with 77SQN last year. It is one of my favourite countries.

First up is the ancient city of Prasat Him Phimai. Phimai Historical Park lies far off the beaten tourist track so that makes for an ideal day of absorbing the fascinating architecture of the Khmer. Built as an important regional center of the Khmer Empire, Phimai faces south toward Angkor.

The white sandstone sanctuary was built during the 16th Buddhist century and additions were made at the the beginning of the following century during the reign of King Jayavoraman VII. The largest stone sanctuary in Thailand measures 565 by 1,030 meters and is protected by a moat and flanked by the Moun and Chackarat rivers.

The central courtyard has 3 towers, or Prangs. The main tower is decorated with lintels and bas reliefs showing scenes or episodes from Ramayana; the epic battle between Rama and Ravana, a demon with many heads and arms who had stolen Rama's wife. The secondary towers are made of laterite and red sandstone. One has the sculpture of a seated King Jayavarman VII.

The next lot of photos are from around Korat town centre

Las Vegas:

I went to Las Vegas in February 2006. I lost all but a few photos as they still on my camera, but the ones I lost were on a HDD so I wouldn't lose them, but alas it died.

Italy:

  • An interesting building. I can't remember where it was taken in Italy.
  • I was attracted to the texture of the wood on these shutters. Somewhere in Italy around the same area as the shot above.
  • A Salvadore Dali sculpture in front of his exhibition in Rome.
  • A Gondola in Venice.
  • A wooden relief of a face carved into a church door in Firenze (Florence).
  • The leaning tower of Pisa. I'll let you guess where that is located.

Water falls:

I went for a bushwalk with my father into a little explored region of the Morton National Park. This area is surrounded by the Maquarie pass, Robertson escarpment and the South coast. I found some really interesting waterfalls in this area and learnt that the movie "Riddle of the Stinson" was filmed in this area.

  • This fall is hidden under a giant boulder and I had to squeeze my way in. The water has carved out a 3m deep trough in solid rock. I know this as I fell in! It was freezing cold.
  • This tiny fall, was at the entrance to the above falls.
  • And so was this trickle.
  • Clover falls. Located at the end of the walk in a natural ampitheatre.
  • Going down the rivulet we have a series of small falls. Here is one of those falls.
  • Further down you come across this. I think this is known as the Rainbow falls.

This series of Images was taken in Helensburgh, just outside the Royal National Park.

Newcastle:

Other Images around newcastle

  • Westpac Rescue Helicopter. I faked the sky as it was washed out, due to an overcast day. I hope it doesn't look to fake.
  • Westpac Rescue Helicopter. Another view, but this time the clouds and sky came out naturally.
  • Forgacs floating docks, crane. This is a rework on a RAW file, which I was never happy with. I would still like to reduce the highlights, to bring back some detail, but I am still learning how to use GIMP.
  • Australian Flag. Redux.
  • Frangipani. Another RAW file, redone and improved.
  • Golden Orb Spider. A photo from a mountain bike ride on Kooragang island 10/05/2008.
  • Newcastle Harbour. Another RAW file, redone and improved.
  • This flower, was hidden in amongst a bunch (pardon the pun) of RAW files, which I have never looked at. Today, it sees the light of day.
  • An image of Newcastle just after the sun has set past the horizon.
  • Are these flowers, too bright? Another lost RAW file.
  • Once located on Glenrock beach was a coal mine and the used railed coal carts to get the coal out. I am not sure if the carts are still there.
  • A shot of the train wheels from the coal carts.
  • Two versions of the same shot. I was photographing shadows and I saw this shadow and had to get it. You decide what you like better. Sepia or B+W.
  • I undertook a B+W proceesing course many years ago and here is a photo of the wharf and shack down the back of the instructors house.
  • A friend of mine is a brilliant Jazz singer. She is also very beautiful. Here is a shot of Lisa, that was hand held @ 200mm f4 1/30sec, supported by a bannister.

Here are a couple of old Images, that I had on my computer and I thought that you may enjoy them. These Images are from the Hunter Gardens in the Wine Country.

Newcastle storm Images of a ship washed up on Nobby's Beach 8th of June 2007. Images from my mobile phone except the last that was sent to me.
